Hello fellow Camera Club Members…
Due to Ben being away in Germany, Rod stepped in and took care of the proceedings for the night, and did a great job… thank you Rod. Rod welcomed our guest judge for the night, Rick Sherwin, and his wife Joy. Rick and Joy are from the Noosa club. After the judging and cuppa, Rick gave us an interesting talk (of which was part of a series he had written for Better Photography Magazine) on "Portraiture using Single Flash" which I’m sure many members found extremely interesting & helpful!
Rod welcomed our new members, Jim Sweeney and Jason Harelle. We hope you both enjoy camera club as much as we all do!
Many THANKS go to Greg Lawler for using his charm at his workplace and getting us the IT ROOM at JAMES NASH HIGH SCHOOL for the Beckham Tutorial day for FREE! A refundable deposit of $200 was needed, but we will get that back if the room is left in good condition… so no engraving your initials in the desks! We also have use of the BBQ for our lunch if we decide to use it! Thanks Greg! That will save the club heaps of money!
An invitation to the Noosa Photo Safari from the Noosa Photographic Society was extended to the Gympie Camera Club, being held on Sunday the 16th of August, from 10am to approx 3pm. The meeting point is the Tewantin Lions Park (opposite the post office). Cost is $10 per person, which includes a sausage sizzle. For more information, contact Cris Muggeridge on 54490951 or crisdebbie@bigpond.com or Sabine Nogly on 54481013 or studiosabine@aapt.net.au
Max Walters then let the club know that the Gympie Camera Club won the PSQ again for the 2nd year running. A prize money of $500 will be awarded to the club, in which it was voted on to spend it on getting a new screen for the projected images. Brian Hanson has graciously agreed to look into this. Thank you Brian.
PHOTOSHOP LECTURE by BARRY BECKHAM
Remember to keep August the 23rd free for a superb lecture on Photoshop. Barry will also touch on AudioVisual, and I’m sure those who were at the Interclub meeting were impressed with the AudioVisual Barry & Carol put together for the Noosa club. At this stage, the cost will be $25-$30 per person and could run from 9am to 4pm. This time is NOT definite as yet, and we will keep you posted for more details. We do however, need to know numbers of who will be attending as we may need to hire another venue. We will be inviting other clubs to attend also.
JUNE OUTING
We had a wonderful turnout of about 14 people (including children & Maureen’s hubby) and it was wonderful to see Margaret Tompkins join us! Thank you Maureen for arranging to pick Margaret up. After fuelling up, we headed on down the highway, stopping first at Wappa dam, Yandina. After taking the exit to Yandina, and being deeply engrossed in conversation, and accidently taking the turn that got us back onto the highway, we were in fits of laughter to see the convoy follow our lead, and imagining what they must have been saying about my navigation skills! We finally made it to Wappa, taking the NEXT exit and paying close attention to the correct exit off the round-about! Unfortunately, the overflow over the dam wall had subsided somewhat to when I had been there 2 weeks prior. After having a wander around, and venturing down to the waterfall there, we were back in the cars to Buderim’s Serenity Falls off Lindsay Road. I lived in Buderim for 8 years prior to moving to Gympie, and never knew these fall existed! Needless to say, my children all knew about them… hubby included! They just never told me about them! After having morning tea, we were back in the cars and made our way to Lake Baroon. After having a look around we had lunch and then ventured up the long hill to Montville where we stopped in at Nature Photographer Andrew Goodall’s little shop. We had a nice yak & look at his amazing images, then a few of us snuck off to the fudge shop a couple of doors down. It wasn’t long before we were ALL at the fudge shop! It was about 3pm when we decided to start the journey home, doing the whole loop past Mapleton, through Nambour and back onto the Highway. I think I can safely say (after seeing the photos on Tuesday night) we all got some wonderful "Movement of Water" shots! Come join us on our next outing… You won’t regret it!
JULY OUTING
On SUNDAY, JULY 19th, a field day has been planned to join the Gympie Naturalists Club on a trip to Poona. Our next competition subject is MACRO / CLOSE-UP so this should be a wonderful opportunity to get some good shots…. And KNOW what we’re taking at the same time! Thanks very much to IAN SMITH for organizing this for us. We are to be at the Gympie Town Hall at 8.45am to leave at 9am SHARP! I was told if you get there after 9, you may as well go home because they’ll be gone! I’m sure most of you will remember Bruce & Joy Drummond from camera club last year, they are now very involved with the Gympie Naturalists Club and will be the ones to meet on the morning. Remember to bring along morning tea & lunch, along with the important things of camera, tripod, macro or zoom lens. Don’t forget the hat also! It should be a good day, so we hope to see as many of you there as possible!
DON’T FORGET!
It’s MONOCHROME in the OPEN category for August!
Do Not submit anything in colour for "open" as it will NOT be accepted!
Congratulations go to GREG LAWLER for his excellent effort at the Gympie Show this year. Greg was awarded, by Ken Chapman, 3 medals. One for Champion Print, Cyril Webster Nature Award and for the most points. WELL DONE GREG!
